JOHN SEELY BROWN JOINS eCatOnly BOARD OF DIRECTORS
Chief Scientist of Xerox Corporation Brings Decades of Business Research Knowledge to Internet Payment Solutions Company


NEWPORT BEACH, Calif., May 24, 2000 - eCatOnly, provider of innovative Internet payment infrastructure solutions, today announced that John Seely Brown, chief scientist and corporate vice president of Xerox Corporation, has been named to the company's board of directors.

Brown is currently director of Xerox's Palo Alto Research Center (PARC). PARC focuses on fundamental research in device physics, computer science, human/computer communication and the social sciences. PARC research is aimed at creating innovations that can improve both human and organizational effectiveness.

Since 1978, Brown has been involved in expanding the role of corporate research at Xerox, which includes the study of areas such as organizational learning and ethnography of the workplace. His personal research interests span many different topics, including digital culture, ubiquitous computing, user centering design, and organizational and individual learning.

Brown also is co-founder of a non-profit organization called Research on Learning and has published more than 95 scientific journals. His journal titled "Research That Reinvents the Corporation" won the McKinsey Award and was published in the Harvard Business Review in 1991. Most recently he co-authored the best selling book "The Social Life of Information", this work along with the earlier "Seeing Differently: Insights on Innovation," were both published by Harvard Business Review Books. Brown was also executive producer for the award-winning film "Art*Lunch*Internet*Dinner" which won a bronze medal at the Charleston International Film Festival in 1994. Other honors include, 1998 Industrial Research Institute Medal for outstanding accomplishments in technological innovation and the 1999 Holland Award in recognition of the best paper published in Research Technology Management in 1998.
